About this role:

We are looking for an experienced, Satellite Operations Engineer to join our busy Engineering team, in a hybrid working role based in Glasgow (Scotland, UK) to support a diverse range of activities to deliver on our projects and missions.

Given the nature of the role, there is some on-call and out-of-hours working involved.

Key Responsibilities:

The purpose of the role is to lead commissioning phases for new missions as well as ensuring normal operations for existing missions in line with cost, quality, safety, and time parameters. The role also contributes towards design of mission-specific ground segments, preparing operation plans, as well developing/improving procedures & tools.

  • Deliver work tasks and assignments in accordance to required standards and compliance requirements
  • Application of functional and technical expertise to meet compliance requirements
  • Ownership of satellite operations work packages in accordance with standards and compliance requirements
  • Drive the first weeks of our satellites’ lives through planning, preparation, and execution of the commissioning phases
  • Analyse data and investigate in-orbit anomalies, solving problems both individually and through collaboration with other engineering disciplines
  • Ensure nominal operations of existing missions and help improve existing processes
  • Support the design of mission specific ground segment systems for service and data delivery
  • Develop documentation and processes in according to regulations and licence requirements

Skills required:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrated industry experience in a similar environment
  • Basic understanding of satellites and the space industry
  • Proven ability to effectively identify and debug issues with existing or new software
  • Technical report and procedure writing to a high standard
  • Ability to work independently as well as to effectively collaborate within cross cultural teams
  • Ability to make technical decisions with a systems mindset
  • Quick thinking with the ability to remain calm under pressure, for example during live satellite communication passes
  • Attention to detail to ensure accurate work
  • Demonstrates ownership of problems and works towards finding solutions
  • Ability to organise self and prioritise workload of multiple projects in dynamic environment with tight deadlines
  • Customer focused with basic commercial understanding
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft Software and familiarity with command line interfaces
  • Proficient in English, both verbally and written

Skills desired:

  • Knowledge of space mission analysis and satellite design
  • Experience of programming in Python
  • Experience of RF/DSP engineering applied to space communications
  • Experience with space mission regulatory environment (ITU filings, insurances…)
  • Experience of testing or operating a satellite at system/mission level
  • Experience with constellation management
  • Previous experience working with small/medium sized companies
