Our mission is supported by an ambitious vertically integrated approach: design & manufacture of small satellites combined with development of earth observation services.
Since its creation in 2018, the company has already grown substantially. Our team gathers more than 25 engineering expertise, from hardware design to software development & data science.
In 2024, Aerospacelab counts offices in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium), Toulouse (France), Lausanne (Switzerland) and US West Coast with more than 200 full-time employees, with the ambition to position itself as the European leader in small satellites.
Role overview
- Design and optimize RF systems and components for satellite telecom payloads (transponders, antennas, amplifiers, frequency converters, ...).
- Develop and review RF system architectures, ensuring they meet the performance and requirements from the customer.
- Work with cross-functional teams (e.g., mechanical, electrical, software, FPGA).
- Lead RF testing activities, including payload performance evaluation, characterization, and validation of satellite telecom systems.
- Develop comprehensive test plans and procedures to validate the performance of RF payloads
- Execute in-lab testing and on-orbit performance validation, using advanced RF measurement tools (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators).
- Conduct performance optimization of RF payload systems, including link budget analysis, interference analysis, and gain optimization.
- Document test results, RF performance, and design validation processes in comprehensive reports, meeting customer specifications.
Must have
- MSc or PhD in RF engineering, 5+ years of experience with a focus on satellite telecom payload design, testing, and validation
- Ability to work across the team and company to drive designs to completion
- Strong expertise in RF system design, including the design of transponders, amplifiers, and communication link budgets.
- Hands-on experience with RF test equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, signal generators, network analyzers).
- Proficiency with RF simulation and modeling tools (e.g. HFSS, ADS).
- Understanding of satellite communication systems, including payloads and telecommunications standards.
Nice to have
- Previous experience with satellite telecom payloads or space-based communication systems.
- Experience with satellite integration, including thermal/vacuum testing and environmental testing.
- Knowledge of modern satellite communication standards (e.g., DVB-S2, CCSDS)
- Knowledge of Python
