Heavens-Above GmbH builds quality software products for the space industry.

We primarily target ground operations: our software displays live telemetry in mission control rooms. We support manned and unmanned missions during launch, commissioning and maintenance phases. In particular, our software is used to monitor data from the International Space Station, and we are now in the early stages of planning to support of the Lunar Gateway, which will be the first space station beyond low Earth orbit.

We additionally host one of the longest running websites dedicated to satellite predictions and amateur astronomy (heavens-above.com).

You would be working initially on a web application helping users identify trends in historical telemetry data. The project involves streaming, time-series aggregations and custom data visualization.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, deploy and maintain software solutions as part of our team;
  • Ensure high code quality through documentation, code review and automated testing;
  • Interact with clients to prioritize bug fixes and addition of new features.

Technology

We aim to be pragmatic in choosing technologies for new projects and expect team members to be involved in the selection and evaluation of such technologies.

Our existing products make use of the following:

  • Languages including Scala/Java, C#, TypeScript/JavaScript and Python;
  • Libraries and frameworks including Akka, Angular, React, D3, three.js, .NET Framework;
  • Interfaces including GraphQL, REST, Protocol Buffers and gRPC;
  • Databases including PostgreSQL, SQL Server and TimescaleDB.

Experience in any of the above would be beneficial, but is not a hard requirement. We welcome applications from less experienced candidates who are eager to learn.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a STEM subject (ie. Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or similar);
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and an analytical mind;
  • Interest in working in the space industry;
  • Eligible to work in Germany;
  • Fluency in English.

Due to the security requirements of our main customer, this position is only open to citizens of a NATO or European Union member country.
