Role Overview & Project:

We are looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer (f/m/d) to join our engineering team.

In your role, you will support the design and development of our broad range of advanced solar arrays, using technologies such as mechanical, origami-foldable architectures and in-space manufactured structures. You will follow our products from early-stage concepts and breadboarding, all the way up to qualification campaigns and launch campaigns, working closely with our team to bring high-performance, reliable products to our customers.

Tasks:

  • Daily, you will be solving problems – most likely ones that no one has run into before and support the R&D team with the development of custom Mechanical Systems & Hardware;
  • Technical trade-offs;
  • Design mechanical assemblies for solar arrays and other deployable structures;
  • Perform structural analyses to validate your designs;
  • Design and build proof-of-concepts for early design validation;
  • Produce technical drawings and manufacturing documentation;
  • Coordinate production of mechanical parts with external suppliers;
  • Produce tolerance budgets and design for manufacturing;
  • Support the assembly and integration activities of our systems;
  • Produce technical documentation and participate in reviews with external stakeholders;
  • Participate in test campaigns;
  • Additionally, you will collaborate with a highly skilled team in a dynamic and innovative work environment, fostering both personal and professional growth.

Candidate Background:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • 1-2 years industry experience in one of the following areas: structural design, structural analysis, manufacturing, testing, assembly and integration (MAIT);
  • Proven experience with mechanical design and analysis using CAD and FEM tools;
  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric | Dimensioning & Tolerancing);
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a dynamic and rapidly-paced;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team environment;
  • Fluent in English;
  • Eligible to work in Germany.

Nice to have requirements:

  • Familiarity with (New) space environment (1+ years);
  • Familiar with ECSS;
  • Familiar with ESA projects (1+ years);
  • You're likely someone who enjoys designing things on your own time, including 3D printing, welding, grinding, and machining;
  • Experienced with mechanisms of development;
  • Coding in Python.
