Description

System Engineers are responsible for specifying and designing ALL.SPACE satellite terminals that operate and perform according to the market needs provided by Product Management. They work within the overall system architecture, detailing specific functionality via requirements, functional descriptions, concept of operations and system modelling as appropriate.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Understand the overall system architecture and functionality;
  • Understand the end-to-end system design and interfaces;
  • Analyse and improve any existing system documentation;
  • Engaging with relevant stakeholders;
  • Create System Requirements documents for new functions and features;
  • Understand the Product Requirements motivating this functionality;
  • Find, understand and map to any existing related System Requirements;
  • Scope the detailed definition of the new feature via:
    • Internal and external documentation searches;
    • Consulting relevant stakeholders and experts;
    • Using techniques to understand the User’s requirements;
    • Generating and running simulations as appropriate.
  • Create CONOPS (concept of operations) documents that explain and illustrate new functionality and its integration within the overall system;
  • Publish, arrange the review of, and gain agreement on system requirements and CONOPS, receiving input from and achieving alignment with cross-functional stakeholders as relevant;
  • Identify any regulations or standards needed for regulatory, compliance or certification purposes;
  • List relevant regulatory and industry standards;
  • Analyser applicability to the system, and efficient means to meet them;
  • Ensure that any necessary work is captured in requirements, opening any new requirements as needed;
  • Advise the System Integration and System Testing teams on testing scenarios and criteria;
  • Implement requirements to testing traceability, mapping requirements to test cases;
  • Provide support to the wider engineering team in their design, implementation and testing of specified features;
  • Support Service Delivery, for instance in the training of support staff on the new features.

Requirements

  • Candidate must hold a degree in an Engineering (or closely related) Bachelor, Masters, or Ph.D. program;
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment, good cross-functional communication skills;
  • Team-player, can-do attitude, and ability to work well in a group environment, while still contributing on an individual basis;
  • High level of self-motivation, enjoys being challenged and learning new skills;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with changing needs and requirements; ability to meet tough goals under high pressure and manage your time effectively;
  • Expert knowledge of Satellite Communications, constellations, modems, and related technologies;
  • An in-depth knowledge of the system concerns, in particular RF, Digital and signal affecting aspects;
  • Familiarity with Software, Hardware, Mechanical and Thermal concerns;
  • Familiarity in test management, including planning, specifying, running and gathering evidence of test results;
  • Experience in regulatory activities; certification and approvals with third parties.
