ROLE DESCRIPTION

The key role and responsibility of the (Junior) Engineer is to establish themselves as a part of the ground systems engineering team providing support for satellite ground systems. In this role, you will learn to interact with cross departmental teams to support design, implementation and smooth handover of satellite ground systems for the next generation satellite networks in LEO, MEO and GEO (e.g. HTS, SES-17 and mPOWER) which shall be implemented and operated for SES considering all aspects of systems, services, procedures and any other constraints. You will provide ownership for solving problems and finding solutions and grow into the team by developing to an engineer in the Radio Frequency & Satellite Communications domain.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your responsiblities include, but are not limited to:

  • Learn how to design and implement a state-of-the-art LEO/MEO/GEO ground system for satellite communications (data and/or video);
  • Contribute to in house system testing and upgrades for existing ground systems to bring them to latest technology level that SES needs to fulfil their mission on a global basis;
  • Perform Configuration and testing of ground station equipment and software;
  • Support remote configuration, management and troubleshooting of gateway infrastructure;
  • Perform periodic calibration of ground systems as per the guideline of engineering team;
  • Perform and participate in ground system integration and test and operational validation of the ground segment, including generation of test plans and procedures and participation in system;
  • acceptance testing, ground readiness tests and network readiness tests;
  • Participate in system handover from ground system integration team to SES operation team including:
    • Work on necessary training for ground system to SES operation/customer;
    • Prepare and deliver as-built system documentation;
    • Active follow-up and closer of pending action item/ground system deliverables.
  • Establish a habit to speak to international suppliers to negotiate technical specifications;
  • Support the ground system engineering team during on-site missions for commissioning ground sta-tions around the globe;
  • Support Ground System Integration team for in house integration of measurement, communications and monitoring and control systems (including Service In-Orbit-Test (IOT) and Monitoring & Control (M&C) Systems) under the guideline of engineering department.

YOUR PROFILE

Must have:

  • A recognized Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering degree (BS/MS or similar) with a knowledge of RF and telecom theory;
  • 1 to 4 years of “hands-on” engineering experience in satellite ground systems and worked successful-ly as Development or Systems Engineer and as Project Manager (not applicable for Junior position);
  • Basic experience in RF measurement techniques using test equipment (e.g. spectrum analyzer);
  • Basic expertise in auxiliary systems like Network (IP, switching, routing);
  • Proven experience with tools like Word, Excel, Excel VBA, PowerPoint, MS Visio, AutoCAD, Sketch-Up, Windows and Linux;
  • Fluency in written and oral English. Every other spoken and written language is considered as an as-set.
