Valve Design Engineer
Latitude
Reims, France
Job Description
As a valve design engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and integrating high-performance valves for use in high-thrust rocket engines. You will work on ensuring that these critical components achieve optimal performance, reliability, and safety in extreme operating environments. Your contributions will play a key role in the overall propulsion system’s success, and you will engage with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
Responsibilities
Tasks and missions:
- Design and development: create detailed designs for high-thrust rocket engine valves, accounting for constraints such as extreme temperatures, high pressures, and rapid response times. Optimize designs for performance, weight, and manufacturability;
- Simulation and analysis: perform structural, thermal, and fluid dynamics simulations using advanced software tools to validate design choices. Ensure that valves meet performance specifications and safety margins;
- Material selection: select materials capable of withstanding extreme operational conditions. Conduct fatigue, thermal, and stress analyses to confirm the suitability of chosen materials and designs;
- Prototyping and testing: oversee the fabrication of prototypes and coordinate rigorous testing campaigns to validate valve functionality. Analyze test results to identify issues and implement design improvements;
- Documentation and compliance: prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including design reports, test plans, and validation records. Ensure all work complies with aerospace industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Preferred experience and skills
- Engineering degree specializing in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, fluid dynamics, or a related field.
Technical skills:
- Proven experience in designing and analyzing high-performance valves or similar fluid control systems, ideally within the aerospace or propulsion sectors;
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) and simulation tools for fluid and structural analysis (e.g., StarCCM, Simcenter, ANSYS, Abaqus);
- In-depth understanding of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and high-temperature material science;
- Knowledge of precision manufacturing techniques and quality control practices for aerospace components;
- Familiarity with testing procedures for valves under high-stress, high-pressure conditions, and experience in interpreting complex data sets.
Behavioral skills:
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a meticulous approach to design and testing;
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a proactive attitude towards collaborating with multidisciplinary teams;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively while maintaining high attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines;
- An innovative mindset, with a passion for continuous improvement and staying updated with the latest industry advancements.
