At our innovative company, we are revolutionizing the spacecraft platform industry, and we invite you to join our Mechanical Engineering Department as the Head of Mechanical Engineering. Our department consists of talented teams working on satellite mechanical design, satellite thermal and structural analysis. The successful candidate will oversee the structural development and subsystem integration of satellites, driving innovation and R&D to ensure exceptional performance and reliability. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, leadership, and a strategic mindset to align mechanical engineering initiatives with the company’s overall goals.
As Head of Mechanical Engineering, you will:
- Lead and mentor the mechanical engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement;
- Oversee all mechanical engineering projects, from concept design through to production, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality targets are met at a departmental level;
- Direct the development of mechanical systems, including structural components, thermal control systems and more, adhering to stringent space industry standards;
- Act as a key point of contact for mechanical engineering across departments, ensuring alignment with cross-functional teams and supporting interdepartmental goals;
- Participate in employee hiring process, be responsible for onboarding, goal/KPI setting and tracking, resource allocation, work planning;
- Develop and implement the mechanical engineering strategy that aligns with company goals, driving innovation and efficiency in line with long-term vision;
- Oversee budgeting for the mechanical engineering department, including resource allocation, cost management, and ensuring efficient use of resources to meet both R&D and production goals;
- Lead initiatives to refine engineering processes, implementing best practices, standardization, and quality control measures to increase efficiency and reduce costs;
- Provide regular updates and technical insights to the executive team, including project progress, budget forecasts, and any challenges encountered;
- Proactively identify technical, project, and resource risks. Develop risk mitigation plans and contingency strategies to ensure project continuity and reliability.
We expect you to have:
- Possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields;
- Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership role;
- Deep knowledge of structural and thermal analysis, materials engineering, and mechanical systems design for extreme environments;
- Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, manage complex projects, and drive innovation in a high-stakes environment;
- Expertise in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and thermal and structural analysis tools;
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
Nice to have:
- Experience in the space industry or with spacecraft platforms;
- Knowledge of additional CAD and structural and thermal analysis tools;
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices.
