RF Engineer
ALL.SPACE
Reading, United Kingdom
Description
Purpose of Role
ALL.SPACE is seeking an RF Engineer to join our team to perform and develop RF tests on innovative end-user terminals for satellite communications.
Working within the Radio Frequency (RF) testing team, you will contribute to the characterization of novel antenna systems, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities and measurement equipment. The successful candidate will work on RF measurements of both sub-systems and full antenna terminals, aiding the development of testing regimes during a prototyping phase and applying these to development and production phases.
ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES
The role will include performing RF measurements of Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), RF lenses, and novel antennas using a mixture of transmission line and over-the-air measurements. The measurements will be conducted using a multitude of facilities, which include:
- Multiple bench-level test setups for testing at a board and sub-module level
- Multiple antenna test ranges of different types, operating at frequencies up to 40 GHz
- A range of RF test equipment to support the bench and chamber setups (VNA’s, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.)
- Thermal control facilities to test RF performance over temperature
- Robotic systems to measure RF performance for simulated vehicle and satellite motion profiles
- Outdoor ranges for far-field testing
In addition to performing the tests, the successful applicant will play a part in developing test regimes to meet production requirements. This includes developing new and novel RF tests as well as contributing to control and analysis software.
Following test and qualification, it is imperative that results are correctly reported. The role will hence include documentation and reporting, using product development and tracking software.
The successful candidate will have a foundational understanding of electronics and RF fundamentals. Candidates with coursework or practical projects in RF, electronics, or antenna systems will be preferred. Knowledge and experience with multi-disciplinary systems with mechanical, electronic, and RF sub-systems would be beneficial.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform RF measurements of antenna components on dedicated test stands, in anechoic chambers, and using outdoor far-field ranges.
- Develop and refine RF measurement test regimes.
- Contribute to RF measurement software development (e.g., MATLAB/Python-based tools).
- Document and report test results using industry-grade product tracking tools.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure testing aligns with project goals
Requirements
Skills and/or Experience
- 2+ years of relevant academic studies in Electronics, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline (e.g., coursework in RF, antennas, or telecommunications).
- Strong interest and exposure to RF systems, antennas, or electronics through studies, projects, or internships.
- Ability to write technical reports with clear and concise communication.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools and familiarity with project tools like JIRA and Confluence (preferred but not essential).
- Basic knowledge of standard scientific computing tools or programming languages such as MATLAB/Python (preferred but not essential).
Other Abilities
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Good interpersonal skills for effectively working internally and with suppliers or partners.
- Ability to summarize, communicate, and document results efficiently and clearly.
- A proactive, hands-on approach to learning and problem-solving.
Additional Notes
This position is ideal for candidates who are early in their careers, with academic exposure to RF testing, electronics, or antennas. Applicants with hands-on lab experience from coursework, projects, or internships are encouraged to apply.
