ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Senior Engineer IRIS2, Satellite Survivability, is in charge of technical analysis and specifications ensuring adequate survivability of the IRIS2 satellites which will also be used for SES commercial business and will contribute to the SES’ next generation MEO constellation. This role implies the interaction with multiple teams within SES, involved in the IRIS2 as well as the MEO project. It also implies interaction with industrial partners.

You will be responsible for (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • Specification of radiation tolerance of platform and payload equipment, developed in collaboration with industrial partners;
  • Definition of overall environmental specification of platform and payload equipment, developed in collaboration with industrial partners;
  • Contribute to overall cost optimization by specifying sufficient margins whilst avoiding excessive margin;
  • Simulation of radiation condition at different orbits to feed into orbit selection trade-off studies;
  • Analysis of technical issues related to the novel payload technologies (FPGAs/ASICs, GaN/SiC devices …) and their impact on payload operation (type and probability of outage);
  • Contribution to the continuous improvement of radiation models supported by proper monitoring in orbit using sensors;
  • Review of partner’s solutions from environmental, power and thermal aspects.

YOUR PROFILE

Must Have:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or science field required;
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience;
  • Proven expertise in radiation environments and their effects on satellite hardware;
  • Proven expertise in overall environmental conditions at multiple satellite orbits;
  • Proven expertise in satellite features required to cope with all environmental conditions;
  • Good knowledge of nuclear threats to spacecraft and mitigation measures;
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience;
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken;
  • Eligibility for ESA/EU SECRET personnel security clearances is essential. Candidates must be prepared to undergo a security clearance procedure, as this position may require holding such clearance;
  • Willing to work at least 66% onsite from office;
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

  • In addition to English, any other European language is considered as an asset.
