Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Stress Engineer
Beyond Aero
Toulouse, France
You will be part of the Engineering team to develop the first hydrogen-electric aircraft from a clean sheet design. As we push the boundaries of innovation in aviation, we are expanding our team and seeking a talented Structural Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Stress Engineer. This role is critical to supporting the development and certification of our aerostructure as we move from preliminary design through to certification under CS-23 regulations. This is a key role within our organization and will be the first hire in the domain of fatigue and damage tolerance. You will be responsible for developing the methods and analysis approaches needed for our aircraft’s structural durability, as well as managing external subcontractors. You will play a central part in ensuring our aircraft structure is designed and certified to the highest safety and performance standards.
Valuable member of the team your role will be:
- Develop and implement fatigue and damage tolerance analysis methods for aircraft aerostructures in compliance with CS-23 certification requirements;
- Lead the analysis of structural components, focusing on fatigue life, damage tolerance, and failure modes under various loading conditions;
- Provide guidance on material selection, part design, inspection requirements and impact on continued airworthiness;
- Support the design team in optimizing aerostructure components to meet both performance and certification requirements;
- Prepare test plans, analysis reports and technical documentation to demonstrate compliance with regulatory standards and design specifications;
- Develop mission definitions, utilization and fatigue spectra for use in evaluating durability of the vehicle structure;
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and systems engineering, to ensure a fully integrated aircraft design;
- Oversee and manage relationships with external subcontractors, ensuring that their deliverables meet our design and certification standards;
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship in the domain of fatigue and damage tolerance within the company;
- Support the certification process by liaising with regulatory authorities and submitting required documentation;
- Continuously monitor industry best practices, trends, and emerging technologies in fatigue and damage tolerance to keep the company at the cutting edge.
About you:
- You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field;
- You have a proven experience in fatigue and damage tolerance analysis, ideally in the aerospace sector, ideally for an OEM or a Main supplier;
- You are proficient in industry-standard finite element analysis tools (e.g., NASTRAN, PATRAN, ANSYS, or similar software);
- You are autonomous, curious, and a good team player;
- You are able to challenge existing process and your management in a spirit of continuous improvement;
- You have an experience in a multi-cultural environment and understand international diversity.
