Job Description
- Work in all areas of the system development cycle including requirements, CONOPs, high-level and detailed design, integration, and test;
- Design, implement and validate automatic flight features, including new functions, flight control laws and failure handling logic;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including avionics, mission planning and software engineers to define and refine system design and requirements;
- Contribute to development of GNC design and validation, including integration and tailoring of company tools and processes;
- Provide assessments of vehicle-level stability and control characteristics in support of vehicle layout and control surface and flight control modifications;
- Design and implement testing architecture and evaluation tools for validating control laws through simulation;
- Design and implement physics-based and empirical models for a variety of subsystems and physical processes (aerodynamics, landing gear, actuators, etc.);
- Work with related organizations such as software and laboratory engineers to establish and maintain interfaces and common practices;
- Support integration and flight test for flight control law evaluation;
- Perform data reduction from ground and flight tests for model and design validation and verification including performance, stability and dynamic derivatives from model estimation.
Required Qualifications
- S. In Aerospace Engineering or B.S. Electrical Engineering or B.S. Mechanical Engineering;
- Demonstrated experience with design and integration of flight control systems;
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and Python;
- Experience with flight control law design and analysis and flight dynamics;
- Flight test experience;
- 5+ years of combined professional experience in the various topics above.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering or Related Field;
- Prior history in GNC engineer during an early development/flight test environment;
- Control Systems, Signal Processing or Autonomy academic background. Control, Guidance, Navigation or Autonomy Vehicle experience (preferably in the aviation field) via academic projects or professional experience;
- Experience in Vehicle Control (aircraft or other) Systems Engineering in the areas of design, integration and test;
- Experience in design and implementation of Safety Critical Systems, e.g. multi-layer state machines;
- Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering;
- Familiarity with Redundancy Management including Failure, Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR);
- Familiarity with Data reduction and Model Identification;
- Awareness/Experience in modeling of Aeroservoelastic or Fluid Structure Interactions;
- Experience in FAA/EASA/AESA certification programs;
- 8+ years of combined professional experience in the various topics above.
