About the job:

You will work directly with our turbomachinery department and play an important role in developing turbomachinery for Pangea’s propulsion systems. This role brings with it the opportunity to work with a broad range of rocket turbomachinery systems that serve the entire launch and space industry, each of which presents unique engineering challenges.

This role primarily involves being the responsible engineer for the development of rocket turbomachinery systems, with a focus on the mechanical design, analysis, and test of subcomponents such as pump and turbine rotors, casings, and bearings.

This role requires strong working knowledge of mechanical design and turbomachinery principles. You will also be working with suppliers and machine shops to produce and qualify turbopump components.

What you need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical/astronautical, aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience of turbomachinery fluid dynamics design in either an aerospace field, or any field working with turbomachinery or pumps.
  • Creative problem solver, experience in overcoming failure, and an independent learner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork abilities, and experience managing other engineers.
  • Experience with GD&T standards and producing design drawings.
  • Experience with either traditional manufacturing methods or additive manufacturing methods.
  • Experience with one of the following:
    • rocket turbopumps.
    • pumps or turbines.
    • other types of turbomachines.
    • rotating machinery, bearings or dynamic seals.
    • cryogenic fluid systems.
  • Strong understanding of thermomechanical loading, stress, and dynamics.
  • Fluent in English.

Other desired competencies:

  • Master’s degree in aeronautical, aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Understanding of rocket turbomachinery systems and rocket engine cycles.
  • Experience with commercial FEA software (Ansys or Abaqus preferably).
  • Experience with commercial CAD software (Siemens Nx preferably).
  • Experience with programming languages (Matlab or Python preferably).
  • In-depth understanding of liquid rocket engine working principles.
  • Experience with Combustion systems.
