We are seeking a thrust chamber engineer to join our Propulsion team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the development of our advanced thrust chambers, with a specific focus on injector and combustion chamber design and optimization. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge propulsion systems and contribute to groundbreaking space missions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred);
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in propulsion system design, with a strong emphasis on injector and combustion chamber design and analysis;
  • Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and combustion processes;
  • Advanced skills in MATLAB environment;
  • Experience with CAD software and design tools (Autodesk Fusion 360 preferred);
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment;
  • Advanced proficiency in technical English, both written and spoken.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, analyse, and optimise injector and combustion chamber components for MR5, our Kero-Lox liquid rocket engine;
  • Conduct detailed performance and thermal analyses to ensure injector and combustion chamber efficiency and reliability;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate injector and combustion chamber designs with other propulsive subsystems;
  • Develop test plans to validate injector and combustion chamber designs and performance and execute analysis on the data retrieved;
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to injector and combustion chamber performance and manufacturing;
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in propulsion technology;
  • Document design processes, analysis results, and test findings comprehensively.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in CFD, predominantly OpenFOAM and Ansys Fluent;
  • Experience with liquid rocket engine development and testing;
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing techniques applied for injector and combustion chamber components;
  • Past experience with FEA software;
  • Knowledge of cryogenic propellants and their handling;
  • Experience with test facility operations and instrumentation.
